‘THERE ARE GREAT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE INDUSTRY’

Expressing that they are proud to host the ceremony where successful member companies are awarded together with UTİB and noting that UHKİB, which reached an export figure of 1 billion dollars with an increase of 32 percent in 2021, broke the record of all time, UHKİB Chairman of the Board Nüvit Gündemir said, innovation is the result of investments made in brand and fashion. There are great opportunities for Turkey in textile and apparel in the coming years. For us to turn this situation into an opportunity, we need to attach importance to design and digitalization in production. In the recent period, the integration of the industry into Industry 4.0 will contribute to the competitiveness of our companies in the international arena, increase the market share and make it easier to adapt to the world.

‘GREEN PRODUCTION AND SUSTAINABILITY’

UTİB Chairman of the Board Pınar Taşdelen Engin underlined that as the Union, they will continue to contribute to Turkish textile in 2022 and said, “We give priority to projects that will raise awareness about green production and sustainability. We will continue our efforts to include technology and innovative production methods, design innovative products, strengthen university-industry cooperation, and ultimately increase the added value in textile exports, with our TechXtile Platform, Turkey Home Textile Design Competition, and Ur-Ge projects.

“WE SHOULD REMOVE THE NEED FOR POSITIVE DISCRIMINATION”

President Engin, who also said that another issue that they attach importance to as UTİB is women’s employment and gender equality, said, “Our women are the pillar of this country and they should see the value they deserve in every field. I will say it at every opportunity until I see that this has turned from discourse to action in my country and that there is no need for positive discrimination. For this reason, to encourage the increase in the number of women in the sector, we have launched a special award application for the female representatives of our business world for the last two years in our Techxtile Sart-Up Challenge program. We also saw that this award encouraged our women even more. Even in 2020, when the pandemic was intense, we received 174 project applications, an increase of 66 percent compared to the previous year. 64 of the projects came from our women entrepreneurs. A woman entrepreneur won first place. We will continue to diversify such special award practices.” After his speech, Engin posed for a souvenir photo with all the female industry representatives participating in the ceremony.

‘BURSA DIRECTS TURKISH EXPORTS’

BTSO Chairman of the Board İbrahim Burkay also noted that Bursa was the second largest city in Turkey with an export figure of 16 billion dollars last year, despite the lack of 2 billion dollars in the automotive sector due to the chip crisis, and said, “If Bursa grows, Turkey will grow, moving towards production and exports. Our city, which attaches great importance to it, has once again demonstrated its success by giving an annual foreign trade surplus of 8 billion dollars. The textile and apparel industry not only sets trends but also has a say in world design by exporting more than 30 billion dollars. I congratulate our unions, who have made great contributions to this success, and all our companies that have accelerated Turkey’s exports.”

WE WILL SIGN SUCCESSFULL WORKS”

TİM President Mustafa Gültepe, who has recently taken office, said that he has been talking only about textiles for 32 years, but from now on, as TİM President, they will put a different signature on Turkey’s export future together with all sectors. Gültepe said, “The textile and clothing industry is one of the leading sectors in Turkey with an export figure of over 30 billion dollars. These two sectors lead all sector stakeholders with their successful work as well as their ability to produce common strategies and projects. We should always strive to carry our achievements forward by protecting our dynamism and motivation.” Gültepe said that Bursa is one of the most important cities in both the clothing and textile sectors. “Bursa, which has achieved great success by having a foreign trade surplus, has a special place in Turkey’s exports. In such a close synchronization with Istanbul, in an environment where distances are getting shorter, we will sign much more successful projects together.”
